11 Current USWNT Players and Where They Played Youth Soccer


The United States Women’s National Team recently set its roster for its matches against Brazil. With most of them growing up in the United States, various youth clubs can be acknowledged for shaping these players and supporting their sports upbringing. Let’s see where some of the current USWNT squad grew up playing youth soccer, and who knows, it might be the same team as you!

 

Claire Hutton

Starting off with one of the newest call-ups to the USWNT, Hutton is a current player for the KC Current. Born in Bethlehem, New York, Hutton started playing for the club Alleycats Soccer Club at age nine, playing with both boys and up in age group. Later in her career, she was a star player on the ECNL club team, World Class FC. Along with the club, in high school she led Bethlehem High School, where she scored 36 goals and 19 assists.

 

Trinity Rodman

The Washington Spirit forward, Trinity Rodman, is a California native. Rodman played club soccer with the SoCal Blues, beginning at 10 years old. The team won four national championships as an ECNL team and had an incredible five-year undefeated record.

 

Ally Sentnor

Sentnor, raised in Hanson, Massachusetts, first joined the Hinham club South Shore Select at six but also trained with the boys’ team at the Boston Bolts. At fifteen, the Utah Royals forward was awarded the Sports Illustrated Sportskid of the Year after a fantastic performance at Thayer Academy, playing on the varsity team in eighth grade.

 

Michelle Cooper

The KC Current forward, Michelle Cooper, grew up in Clarkston, Michigan. Cooper completed both school and soccer at IMG Academy in Florida. This sports school saw Cooper flourish as a top captain in her junior and senior seasons, being ranked by TopDrawerSoccer as the 18th best recruit in the 2021 class.

 

Yazmeen Ryan

Ryan, born in Norman, Oklahoma, began playing soccer for the Oklahoma Celtics. She additionally played varsity soccer for her high school, Norman North High School, where she contributed to their first girls’ soccer state championship as a first-year student. Now, after playing for TCU, Ryan has recently joined the Houston Dash.

 

Jaedyn Shaw

Shaw, born in Frisco, Texas, currently plays for BLANK. Growing up, she played for Solar Soccer Club from age five to eight. As a teenager, Shaw joined FC Dallas’ youth academy team, where the club ended up winning the U-15 championship during the 2018 season. Along with club soccer, Shaw enjoyed playing futsal where she could improve technically in tight and small spaces.

 

Alyssa Thompson

Thompson, who grew up in Los Angeles and plays for Angel City. Originally, she began her soccer journey with futsal at the Total Futsal Academy. At nine years old, she then joined a boys’ team. Real So Cal was Thompson’s next club, where she played until COVID-19. Once soccer picked up after the pandemic, Thompson returned to Total Futsal Academy with the U-19 MLS Next boys league.

 

Alana Cook

Cook, a New Jersey native, played club soccer for Match Fit Academy Colchesters. In high school, she played youth soccer at her boarding school, The Pennington School. With the varsity soccer team, she was a crucial addition to leading them to regional and state titles. In 2013, Cook was the New Jersey Prep Player of the Year.

 

Korbin Albert

Albert grew up in Grayslake, Chicago, where she played for Eclipse Select Soccer Club. Albert was named player of the season twice for Eclipse’s league and often gained recognition from the U.S. Youth National Team. Currently, Albert is playing internationally at Paris Saint-Germain.

 

Emily Sams

Sams was born in Boise, Ohio, but spent much of her early soccer years in Navarre, Florida. It was there that she played youth club soccer for the Gulf Coast Texans, and she also had a pretty remarkable high school career. In Florida, she was a crucial player for her varsity high school soccer team, Navarre High School. It was here that she scored a total of 107 goals and 70 assists. She won Player of the Year by the Pensacola News Journal twice in high school and was the 2016 Florida Miss Soccer.

 

Emily Sonnett

Sonnett grew up in Marietta, Georgia, where she played for the North Atlanta Soccer Association (NASA) for 10 years. Sonnett won back-to-back Georgia State Cup Championship titles in 2007 and 2008. Throughout those years, Sonnett earned recognition as the U-17 Best XI as a midfielder, the U-19 Best XI as a midfielder, and also the Golden Ball award for being the best player at the 2013 US Youth Soccer National Championship Series.
