Grace Asantewaa stood tall and proud after Ghana’s dramatic victory over Algeria, declaring her readiness for the moment she had long prepared for.

The Black Queens midfielder, glowing with emotion, helped guide Ghana to a 4-2 penalty shootout win over the Fennecs, sending the team to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semi-finals for the first time in a decade.

Asantewaa was the heartbeat of the squad throughout the tense battle and was deservedly named Woman of the Match for her tireless effort and composure.

“I am very very happy. I have been preparing for this, Ghanaians have been preparing for this and today’s game was like, Ghanaians are saying it is now time for us to win WAFCON,” she said.

“And also as an individual, I want to win this WAFCON. It is a great tournament and I would want my name to be in the history books in Africa and in the world,” she added.

The Black Queens now face hosts Morocco on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, with belief soaring.
