2026 World Cup: ‘I always put my teammates first’ – Jordan Ayew on life as Black Stars captain – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

Jordan Ayew has spoken about the responsibility of captaining Ghana, describing the role as both an honour and a duty as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The forward, who has become a senior figure in the squad, says he approaches the captaincy with calmness while prioritising unity and motivation within the team.

“Obviously, it’s an honour and a big responsibility. I just take it calmly and do my best for the country, for my teammates,” he told FIFA.

Ayew explained that his leadership style is centred on putting the group first and ensuring the squad remains focused and prepared for every challenge.

“I always put them first and try to do my best for them. For everyone to be happy and for everybody to be ready for each game,” he added.

He noted that his approach is steady and uncomplicated, allowing him to deal with pressure as it comes rather than overthinking expectations.

“I take it day by day. I’m just a chilled person, I’m natural. I just deal with things as they come,” Ayew said.

With Ghana targeting a strong World Cup run, Ayew’s leadership is expected to play a key role in guiding a team aiming to return to the knockout stages for the first time since 2010.
