Brandon Thomas-Asante continued his blistering form with a first-half brace as Coventry City thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 5-0 at Hillsborough to move top of the Championship table.

The Ghanaian forward struck twice inside the opening half-hour, setting the tone for a dominant display from Mark Robins’ side.

Haji Wright, Ellis Simms, and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto completed the rout as Coventry extended their unbeaten start to nine league matches.

Thomas-Asante gave the visitors the perfect start just three minutes in, reacting quickest inside the box to bury a close-range finish after Wednesday failed to clear a corner.

His relentless pressing and movement caused chaos for the home defence, and he doubled his tally on 31 minutes, dispossessing Dominic Iorfa before rifling a composed effort into the far corner.

The 26-year-old nearly completed a hat-trick after the restart, his header forcing a fine save from Ethan Horvath.

Thomas-Asante, who now boasts five goals and three assists in nine league games, has quickly become Coventry’s talisman in their push for promotion.

Wright added a third on the stroke of half-time, Simms slotted home a fourth, and Sakamoto sealed a commanding victory late on.

For Thomas-Asante, it was another performance that underlined his growing reputation as one of the Championship’s most complete forwards.
