Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu says the government has a duty to guarantee smooth visa processing for Ghanaians traveling to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Abura Asebu-Kwamankese MP stated that authorities are determined to ensure as many supporters as possible can attend the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
His comments follow Ghana’s qualification for the tournament and recent meetings between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the US Embassy, and the Canadian High Commission. The discussions, held earlier in October, also included the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ghana Football Association, and senior Foreign Affairs officials to coordinate visa arrangements.
“As a government, we have a duty to at all times look out for the interests of the people of Ghana. The Foreign Ministry has acted proactively by engaging the necessary authorities in the host countries to ensure the visa process for Ghanaians is smooth,” Kwakye Ofosu told Joy Sports.
He added that Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s engagements with embassy officials had been productive and received encouraging feedback.
“My engagement with the Foreign Minister indicates that it went well and that he is happy about the progress made,” he said.
Ablakwa also confirmed that similar discussions would soon be held with Mexican officials to complete Ghana’s World Cup visa facilitation plan.
