Chelsea have thrown their hat into the ring for one of France’s hottest prospects, with Marseille wonderkid Robinio Vaz firmly on their radar. The 18-year-old centre-forward has burst onto the scene this season, and his explosive form hasn’t gone unnoticed across Europe.
The Vaz Factor: Why Chelsea Want Him
Since stepping up from Marseille’s academy in 2025, Vaz has been nothing short of sensational. Despite predominantly coming off the bench, the France U20 international has racked up four goals and two assists in just 373 Ligue 1 minutes—that’s a goal involvement every 93 minutes. Those are numbers that make scouts sit up and take notice.
According to transfer insider Ekrem Konur, Chelsea have formally expressed interest in securing the teenager’s signature. Given the Blues’ recent track record of hoovering up Europe’s brightest young talents, this comes as little surprise. The West London outfit could initially send Vaz to their French sister club Strasbourg for development before integrating him into the first-team setup.
Fierce Competition Ahead
However, Chelsea face a proper scrap for Vaz’s services. AS Roma, Aston Villa, Eintracht Frankfurt and Brentford have all entered the fray, making this a genuine European transfer battle. Marseille, understandably reluctant to lose their prized asset, have slapped a £21-26m price tag on the forward, whose contract runs until 2028.
Do Chelsea Actually Need Him?
Here’s where it gets interesting. Chelsea’s attacking options are already bursting at the seams, with Emmanuel Emegha and Dastan Satpaev confirmed for next season, alongside current options like Marc Guiu and academy prospect Shumaira Mheuka. Add Geovany Quenda to that summer shopping list, and you’ve got quite the forward line.
Their recent 2-1 defeat to Fulham—where they converted just one of 17 chances—suggests the issue isn’t quantity but quality of finishing. More pressingly, Chelsea’s defensive frailties remain unaddressed, a problem that’s lingered since last season and arguably deserves greater attention than yet another attacking acquisition.
