Arsenal club captain Kim Little says the team are enjoying some great momentum.

After wins over WSL defending champions Chelsea and then Corinthians to win the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, the Gunners beat league leaders Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday with a goal from Olivia Smith.

And after the game, the midfielder told Sky Sports: “We’ve had quite a big week in terms of fixtures. We’ve put in some really great performances throughout the squad. All the players have done really well. We’ve risen to the occasion.”

And she confirmed that Arsenal are still working as hard as they can to secure a Champions League spot.

“Ultimately in the league, City have put themselves in a really good position and our job is to push as much as we can till that end game of the season.”

Kim Little: I’m glad to be doing what I can for Arsenal

Reflecting on the match itself, she explained: “Obviously great that Liv [Olivia Smith] got on the scoresheet again. I thought we had a really good first half. Second half was a lot more physical and end to end. We rode it out in the end and put in a really good shift, the players that came on as well. We’re glad to get the three points.”

She revealed that they had worked hard on their preparation for the match, which included a lot of focus on their midfield duels.

“We go through our main tactics and then we speak a lot about little battles in all the areas of the pitch, and one of them today was being aware of their real threat as midfielders,” she said.

“We knew that we needed to be tight to them and as physical as possible. We did that really well, especially in the first half.”

And of her own role, which has changed and developed over her long tenure with the club, she simply said: “I’m glad to be on the pitch and doing what I can for the team.”
