Ghanaian forward Augustine Boakye continued his impressive form in the French Ligue 2 after finding the back of the net in Saint-Etienne’s crucial victory over Stade Lavallois on Saturday.

The former WAFA Academy attacker played a decisive role as Saint-Etienne secured a vital win to strengthen their push for promotion back to the French top-flight.

The Greens got off to a flying start when Georgian international Zuriko Davitashvili converted from the penalty spot just three minutes into the encounter to hand the hosts an early lead.

However, Lavallois responded strongly and restored parity in the 36th minute through Malian striker Mamadou Camara, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to make it 1-1.

Boakye ensured Saint-Etienne regained control before the halftime whistle. The 25-year-old Ghanaian attacker connected neatly with a pass from Belgian forward Lucas Stassin, calmly finishing to restore his side’s advantage.

Ghana defender Ebenezer Annan was introduced late in the game, replacing Davitashvili in the 89th minute as Saint-Etienne managed the closing stages professionally.

The victory keeps Saint-Etienne second on the Ligue 2 table as they intensify their bid for automatic promotion at the end of the campaign.

Boakye now boasts an impressive return of five goals and five assists in 21 league appearances this season, underlining his growing importance to Saint-Etienne’s promotion ambitions.
