Bibiani GoldStars head coach Fritz Schmid has admitted that preparations for Sunday’s Ghana Premier League away fixture against Young Apostles have been hampered by logistical challenges surrounding Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Wenchi, Schmid revealed that the national holiday forced the technical team to alter their routine because their training ground was probably used for the ceremonial activities.
“It’s been a bit difficult because we had to adjust our schedule because of Independence Day,” Schmid stated. “We had to adjust our training times and try different training sites. But I think the boys have adapted very well.”
Despite the disruptions, the Miners remain focused on their title charge. GoldStars currently sit second in the league standings with 45 points, just one point behind leaders Medeama SC.
The team arrives in Wenchi in peak form, riding a four-match winning streak that includes a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Hearts of Oak in their last outing.
The stakes remain high for both sides at the Wenchi Sports Stadium. While GoldStars are hunting for the top spot, Young Apostles are desperate for points to escape the relegation zone. The hosts currently sit 17th with 27 points, coming off a 1-1 draw against Berekum Chelsea.
Schmid remains optimistic about his side’s readiness despite the irregular week. “We are on track. We still have work to do, so we’re looking forward to our journey to our next away game,” he concluded.
