The transfer saga surrounding Rodri is heating up — and it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest stories of the summer window.
Real Madrid are growing increasingly confident of landing the Manchester City midfielder, though Los Blancos remain determined not to pay over the odds for his signature. With one year left on his contract at the Etihad, the clock is ticking for all parties involved.
Rodri Has All But Opened the Door
The Ballon d’Or winner did little to dampen the speculation during a recent Spanish radio interview. Rodri was remarkably candid, stating: “Having played for Atlético de Madrid doesn’t prevent me from playing for Real Madrid. You can’t turn down the best clubs in the world.” That’s about as close to a transfer hint as you’ll get without a plane ticket.
City Won’t Stand in His Way
Crucially, Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City will not block Rodri from making the move if that’s what the player wants. City have tabled a new contract offer, but there is an internal acceptance that Rodri may be ready for a new challenge.
Why Madrid Want Him So Badly
Real are actively targeting at least one new midfielder this summer and view Rodri as the ideal experienced figure to lead their dressing room — with their priority being to wrap up a deal before the World Cup.
Everything is aligning. The player is keen, City are open to business, and Madrid are pushing hard. Reports suggest a fee of around £50 million could be enough to get the deal done. If that’s the case, this transfer feels inevitable — and frankly, it would be a statement signing from Los Blancos.
