Wiegman adds Barry and Charles to England squad


England head coach Sarina Wiegman has offered late call-ups to Keira Barry and Niamh Charles ahead of this month’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 qualifiers against Spain and Iceland.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from The Football Association this morning.

London City Lionesses forward Freya Godfrey has withdrawn from the England squad with a shoulder injury. Bay FC forward Barry has been drafted in for Godfrey while Wiegman has also opted to call-up Chelsea full-back Charles to bolster the squad further.

Barry’s call-up is her first for the Lionesses at senior level. She has previously represented her country at various youth levels up to and including Under-23 level. Charles was a member of the England squad that retained their UEFA Women’s EURO title in Switzerland last summer.

Following the conclusion of the weekend’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup action, the England squad link-up at St. George’s Park later today as they prepare for the continuation of their FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 qualification campaign. The Lionesses will contest a fixture against world champions Spain at Wembley on Tuesday 14 April 2026 before facing Iceland in Reykjavik on Saturday 18 April 2026. England have two wins out of two in qualifying so far.
