The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to meet on Monday, April 7, 2026, with the appointment of a new Black Stars head coach topping the agenda. The search for a new manager follows the dismissal of the previous coach after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany in friendly matches during the March international window. With less than three months to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the GFA is under growing pressure to establish a clear technical direction for the national team. The Black Stars’ recent performances under Otto Addo raised concerns, heightening calls for urgent action ahead of the tournament in North America. According to Citi Sports, three candidates have been shortlisted for the role, although their identities have not been made public. The Executive Committee is expected to review the options and arrive at a preferred choice during today’s meeting. Following any decision, the association is expected to engage government stakeholders in line with the collaborative approach often used in major national team appointments. The GFA has indicated that it is seeking a coach with proven success at both club and international level, signalling its intent to appoint a highly experienced tactician. The Black Stars are expected to regroup in May for a friendly against Mexico, before concluding their build-up with another preparatory match against Wales on June 2. Ghana, making its fifth appearance at the World Cup, has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
