Bibiani GoldStars reveals existing safety travelling measures amid Berekum Chelsea attack – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

In the wake of the armed robbery attack on Berekum Chelsea’s team bus that claimed the life of midfielder Dominic Frimpong, Bibiani GoldStars administrative manager Joseph Oti-Manu has detailed the safety protocols his club has already implemented to protect players on long-distance travel.

Oti-Manu spoke exclusively to Citi Sports after Gold Stars provided a bus to assist Berekum Chelsea’s return journey following the tragic incident. He revealed that his club has adopted a policy of overnight stays for trips exceeding three hours.

“Any travel that is more than three hours from Bibiani after the game, we should sleep over it. We have decided to make it a point, and we started this before this incident. This season we went to Wenchi, we slept; we went to Tamale, we slept… till the next day, and we come back,” Oti-Manu said.

“For safety reasons, it really helps the club very well, and it helps our players relax as well because moving a far trip and coming back the same night is very risky.”

The Berekum Chelsea team bus was attacked on the Bibiani–Goaso road at Ashiresu as the players returned from a 1–0 defeat to FC Samartex in Samreboi during a Week 29 Ghana Premier League fixture. Frimpong sustained a gunshot wound to the head and later died at a health facility.

Oti-Manu urged the Ghana Football Association to take action, acknowledging that while overnight stays are costly, the safety of players must come first.

**“Moving forward, I will urge all Premier League clubs – I know it’s very costly – but the GFA should do something about it.”**
