Ebenezer Annan is set to miss Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Mexico due to AS Saint-Etienne’s ongoing promotion battle in France.
The left-back was recently called up by new Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The friendly against Mexico is expected to provide Queiroz with an opportunity to assess players and begin shaping his squad ahead of the tournament in North America.
However, Annan’s availability is now in serious doubt with Saint-Etienne entering a decisive stage of their campaign as they push for promotion back to the French top flight.
The Ghanaian defender has played an important role for the French side this season and is expected to remain part of the team’s plans during the final stretch of the campaign.
Reports indicate the club are unwilling to release the player for international duty at such a crucial stage of the season.
The situation leaves Annan facing a difficult choice between national team duty and helping his club achieve promotion.
His Saint-Ãtienne teammate Augustine Boakye, who also received a Black Stars call-up, is likewise expected to miss the match.
Ghana are scheduled to face Mexico on May 22 as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
