Phil Foden’s sublime backheel set up Antoine Semenyo to score the opener for Manchester City against Crystal Palace.
Man City are continuing to chase down Arsenal in the Premier League title race and it was a nervy opening by the hosts with little chances, but a wonderful piece of skill needed to unlock the Eagles defence.
Picking up a pass from Matheus Nunes with his back to goal on the edge of the box, Foden spotted the run of Semenyo before threading the ball through with his backheel past three Palace defenders before the winger slotted past Dean Henderson.
It was the England playmaker’s first start since March and the 25-year-old has already done his best to ensure he keeps hold of the shirt ahead of City’s final two games after this.
After a disappointing season, the midfielder is facing questions over his place in England’s World Cup squad this summer, which will be announced on Friday, May 22.
Foden’s last City start in the Premier League came against Nottingham Forest in early March, which was also the last time Semenyo had scored in the top flight prior to his 32nd-minute finish, ending a seven-game drought.
Foden grabbed another assist moments later went he delightfully brought down the ball into the path of Omar Marmous, who turned and found the net to put the hosts in control as they continue to keep the pressure on Arsenal at the summit.
