'Anti-Ghana FA' club waves white flag as New Edubiase United goes up for sale
New Edubiase United is up for sale.Owners of New Edubiase United say frustration with the “system in Ghana football” has left them with no option but to put the Division One League side up for sale after 19 years of operation. The former Ghana Premier League side, relegated at the end of the 2015/16 season, is understood to have grown increasingly frustrated with what club insiders describe as their treatment under the current Ghana Football Association leadership, citing longstanding ideological differences. The club’s hierarchy also believes that their former player Salim Adams, now with Ghana Premier League champions Medeama, was overlooked for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad because of his close association with club president Yakubu Abdul Salam. However, no evidence has been publicly presented to substantiate that claim.New Edubiase United, campaigners in Zone Two, made the announcement through an official promotional flyer inviting investors to acquire the club. The sale package includes the club’s assets and infrastructure, its Division One League slot, a professional coaching staff, an established talent academy and what the owners describe as a proven track record in Zone Two.Co-founder and vice president Alex Ackumey told GHANASoccernet.com: “We go through a lot to run clubs in Ghana and so if there are machination against your growth then it makes no sense to invest in football in the country.”We at New Edubiase feel disadvantaged nowadays because players dont even want to register with us simply because they wont be called into the national teams. This is bad for football.”New Edubiase United, a provincial club, has built a reputation over the years for developing talented youngsters for domestic and international markets. They won the MTN Ghana FA Cup in 2012 after defeating AshantiGold in the final and went on to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.In 2012, Edubiase produced the Ghana Premier League goal king in Emmanuel Baffour and had midfielder Mumuni Abubakar named Sports Writers Association of Ghana Player of the Year.Three years later, another fine talent in Latif Anabila came through their stables and was named the Ghana Premier League Promising Player for the Year.New Edubiase United built a strong reputation as a breeding ground for emerging talents and consistently supplyed junior national teams with quality players. The club produced a remarkable list of prospects, including Asiedu Attobrah, Abeiku Ainooson, Ebenezer Ofori, Ibrahim Moro, and twin brothers Fuseini and Alhassan Nuhu, among several others who went on to make significant strides in their careers.
