Swanson (knee) out for Stars on Friday – Equalizer Soccer

Mallory Swanson has been ruled out of the Stars’ Friday night visit to Orlando with a knee injury. It will be the first game Swanson has sat out since returning from maternity leave May 16. She played 90 minutes for the first time July 5, beginning a streak of three straight games going the distance. There was no obvious indication that Swnason had taken an injury in last week’s home loss to Angel City FC.

The injury is the second hit to the Stars front line this week. Jordyn Huitema, who had to leave the Angel City match in the 1st half, was diagnosed with a torn ACL. Huitema will miss the rest of the season. The absences will not help a team that has lost 11 times this season—and been shutout in all of them. Huitema’s 4 goals account for half of the team’s paltry total of 8 this season. Swanson has 1 leaving just 3 among uninjured players. One of them, Tessa Dellarose, has not played since May 5. That leaves Nadia Gomes and Samantha Staab as goal scorers who featured last weekend.

The Stars have been outscored 10-0 in their last two trips to the newly rebranded Inter.co Stadium. They lost the 2024 quarterfinal match 4-0, and the2025 season opener 6-0. The Stars are 7-23-11 since the start of 2025 and have scored 40 goals in 41 games. Swanson did not play in 2025 for maternity leave.
