Midfield Rebuild Complete, Attention Turns to Left-Back
United have already overhauled their midfield following Casemiro’s exit and Manuel Ugarte’s knee injury, bringing in Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba from Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Brighton respectively. Santos and Tielemans both started the season-opening defeat to Hull City.
Now the focus has shifted to left-back, where Newcastle’s Lewis Hall was United’s top target. With the Magpies unwilling to sell — Hall’s contract runs until 2029 — United have turned their attention to Seys, hoping to negotiate below his reported £30m valuation.

Football Insider also names Alejandro Balde (Barcelona), David Raum (RB Leipzig), and Jorge Salinas (Racing Santander) as alternatives United are monitoring.
Why United Need Reinforcements
Luke Shaw remains first-choice despite persistent fitness concerns, and his form has dipped as he enters the final months of his contract. Patrick Dorgu, signed as a long-term successor, has instead been deployed further forward by Michael Carrick. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can cover the position but are natural right-backs.
With the September 1st transfer deadline approaching, all eyes are on whether United can get a deal for Seys — or one of their other targets — over the line before the window shuts. United’s next test comes against Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday.
