Everton have been looking to add fresh firepower in their frontline going into the dusk hours of the transfer window and it looks like the Toffees are gathering serious momentum with reports emerging that Folarin Balogun has already accepted a contract offer from the Merseysiders as talks continue with Monaco over a permanent transfer.

According to transfer insider Franchise, Everton have been quoted £40million for the American international but are believed to be closing in on a deal worth around £35million, a fee that would represent a significant show of intent from Moyes and the board in the closing days of the window.

Folarin Balogun will be a familiar name to plenty of Evertonians given his roots in English football, having come through the Arsenal academy before a string of loan spells took him around Europe.
He then went to Reims where he was scoring goals for fun in Ligue 1. His move to Monaco followed soon after. And while things have not always run entirely smoothly on the Cote d’Azur, the 24 year old remains a player with genuine top level pedigree (something we saw from him at the World Cup this year) and the kind of profile Everton have been crying out for.

The timing of this links up rather neatly with everything that has been swirling around Hill Dickinson Stadium in recent days. With Beto’s future looking increasingly likely to end away from Merseyside and Liam Delap moving to Nottingham Forest, Everton clearly cannot afford to leave themselves short up top when the window slams shut.
Folarin Balogun would give Moyes a different option entirely to Thierno Barry, someone comfortable playing off the shoulder or leading the line in his own right, and crucially a forward with proven goal returns outside of the Premier League that Everton will hope translates once he settles in.
There is still work to be done, of course. Personal terms being accepted is one thing, but getting Monaco to budge those final few million pounds is often where these deals either get done quickly or drag agonisingly close to deadline day. Everton fans who lived through the various near misses of recent windows will know better than most not to celebrate until pen is on paper.
Still, with talks described as advancing and the player himself seemingly keen, there is genuine reason for optimism that Everton could yet land a forward capable of making a real difference before Tuesday’s 11pm cut off arrives.
