FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist University women’s soccer team began USA South action at home, inside Duggins Soccer Stadium this afternoon, unfortunately falling short 2-0 with a handful of scoring opportunities in the closing minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights were quick to kick things off with an opening score in the first 20 seconds of action, with Halle Willardson landing her shot into the net for an unassisted score to put Southern Virginia up, 1-0.
- The final goal of the contest was converted by Lottie Smith for the Knights, assisted by Brynlee Sommer off a high-paced touch pass that connected perfectly for Smith in the 36th minute, extending Southern Virginia’s lead, 2-0.
- The Monarchs were able to drive up-and-down the field during the entirety of the contests, however, were unsuccessful in cashing in any goals scored off their four total shots as a squad.
- Freshman goalkeeper Kiera Ferguson helped in maintaining the Monarchs positive momentum, only allowing two goals against, with a collegiate and season best 13 saves for Ferguson.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Freshman Sydney Campbell kept Methodist’s offense driving through many chances to score with her two shots on the day.
- Freshman Anna Wiggins and senior Allye Carter connected each on one shot through their offensive gameplay during the afternoon.
- Halle Wilderson commanded the Knights offense unit as the co-top scorer for Southern Virginia, recording one goal off four shots, three of them being on goal.
