After the 2025 season, Top Drawer Soccer (TDS) ranked the top freshmen in DI womens soccer. Every year, TDS puts together a list of the top 100 freshmen starting with the TDS Freshman of the Year at no. 1. This year, Stanford midfielder Y-Lan Nguyen was named TDS’s Freshman of the Year.
Y-Lan Nguyen
Y-Lan Nguyen is a midfielder for the Stanford Cardinal. She was born in Fairfax, VA, and has participated in multiple youth national team training camps. Nguyen started her Stanford career on a high note, as she scored a goal in her collegiate debut against San Francisco. As a freshman, she helped Stanford make it to the NCAA DI Women’s College Cup final and even earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Kamdyn Fuller
Kamdyn Fuller is a midfielder for the TCU Horned Frogs. She is from Southlake, Texas, and was ranked No. 2 on TDS’s list of 2025 Postseason Top-100 Freshmen. Fuller started and played in 23 matches during her freshman season and helped the team reach the NCAA DI Women’s College Cup semifinal. She also swept her conference awards, earning Big 12 Freshman of the Year, All-Big 12 First Team, and All-Big 12 Freshman Team.
Caroline Birkel
Caroline Birkel is a goalie for the Stanford Cardinal. She grew up in St. Louis and also played field hockey throughout high school. TDS ranked her at No. 3 on their 2025 Postseason Top-100 Freshmen after Stanford made the NCAA DI Women’s College Cup final. Birkel also swept her conference awards, earning ACC Goalkeeper of the Year, All-ACC First Team, and ACC All-Freshman team.
Daya King
Daya King is a defender for the Duke Blue Devils. She was born in Los Alamitos, California, and is one of seven siblings. During her senior year of high school, she earned Gatorade State Player of the Year in California and continued to excel at Duke. King started in all 22 matches that she played in and was ranked No. 4 on TDS’s list of 2025 Postseason Top-100 Freshmen. She was also named to the ACC All-Freshman team.
Kylie Maxwell
Kylie Maxwell is a forward for the Wake Forest Deacons. She’s from Langhorne, Pennsylvania, and grew up in a household full of athletes. Her twin sister also plays soccer at Wake Forest, and her mom, dad, and brother all played sports in college. She was also named Gatorade Player of the Year in Pennsylvania and earned the No. 5 spot on TDS’s list of 2025 Postseason Top-100 Freshmen. After her freshman season, she was named 2025 ACC Freshman of the Year.
