The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have formed a five-member Search Committee to oversee the recruitment of a new head coach for the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The committee was established after a meeting between the leadership of the GFA and the Ministry in Accra on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Former Ghana Football Association Vice-President Fred Pappoe will chair the panel. He brings extensive experience in football administration and governance to the recruitment process.
Pappoe will work alongside four other members:
– Anthony Baffoe, General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) and a former Ghana international;- Agbesi Dzakpasu (Esq.), a legal practitioner and football administrator;- Stephen Appiah, former Black Stars captain; and- Faisal Chibsah, a high-performance specialist.
The committees terms of reference require it to identify and assess potential candidates before recommending the most suitable person for the vacant coaching position.
It will submit its findings and recommendation to the Ghana Football Association.
The Black Stars post became available on Thursday, October 1, 2026, when Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz resigned after the September international window.
The GFA and the Ministry said the appointment process would be transparent and based on merit as they seek a competent coach to take charge of the team for its upcoming assignments.
