Aston Villa’s interim boss Sørensen to remain in role for the season

Aston Villa have announced the news that Brian Sørensen will remain in his position of interim head coach for the whole of the 2026/2027 season.

The Villans revealed the news in an official club statement earlier today.

The 46-year-old stepped up from his usual role of women’s technical advisor into the interim head coach role following former boss Natalia Arroyo’s departure at the end of last month. Aston Villa opted for a managerial change following a difficult start to the season.

Since taking up his interim position, Sørensen has guided Aston Villa to a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United in the Subway Players Cup along with a 1-1 home draw with Crystal Palace in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The Dane will now be tasked with helping The Villans climb the Barclays Women’s Super League table.

Aston Villa face a gruelling nine-match window before the next international break at the end of November. They will face six opponents in the Barclays Women’s Super League, along with three games in the Subway Players Cup. Two of the nine games are against Second City rivals Birmingham City.

Aston Villa resume Barclays Women’s Super League action on Sunday afternoon when they play host to Liverpool at Keys Park in Hednesford.
