There was a potentially game-changing moment on Saturday when Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez was taken off with a broken jaw after a horrible clash with Jarrad Branthwaite.
It mean an unexpected Premier League debut for 21 year old Mike Penders, who had just moments to prepare. If he had looked nervy it could have affected the whole team when they were at their most vulnerable and swung the momentum against the Blues,
Instead he looked instantly in control, and one moment in particular impressed pundit Stuart Pearce.
Penders’ authority impresses pundit Pearce

“Penders has come in. He looked confident. He did. He came for one cross that was 17 yards out; incredible. I thought, ‘If you don’t get this, you’re going to look a clown’,” Pearce noted on TalkSport, as quoted by the Chelsea Chronicle.
“He did really well; he caught the odd cross. When he came on for the last 20 minutes, and when they got the second goal, the game was done. They were slowing it down. Now he will get an extended run [in the team].”
