Bolgatanga Sports Stadium construction expected to begin before end of 2026

Construction of the proposed Bolgatanga Sports Stadium is expected to begin before the end of 2026, with the Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, revealing that a government team will visit the site this month ahead of the project.Speaking to Citi Sports, Atanga said the planned assessment would pave the way for work to begin on the multi-purpose sporting complex. The facility is expected to accommodate several disciplines, including football, athletics, boxing, basketball, volleyball and indoor sports.Plans include a main football pitch, a training ground, athletics tracks, basketball and volleyball courts, a swimming pool, jumping facilities and conference rooms. The project forms part of the governments plan to construct 10 new stadia across the country, with funding allocated in the 2026 national budget.Atanga believes the facility will create employment opportunities, encourage investment and provide young people in the Upper East Region with improved access to sporting activities.Sporting activities today are no longer just about entertainment. They are also a source of employment and an opportunity for investors to come and invest, he told Citi Sports. He also urged residents to use the facility to develop their talents and contribute to the regions progress once construction is completed. We are hopeful, and the people of the Upper East Region are grateful to President John Dramani Mahama and his government for attending to us, he said.
