Björn, Malard and Carpenter strike inside 19 minutes
It took Chelsea 3 minutes to break through. Nathalie Björn finished from a Katie McCabe assist to open the scoring.
Malard made it two in the 10th minute, and Ellie Carpenter added a third in the 13th. Malard then scored her second in the 19th minute, leaving Karen Hills’ side 4-0 down long before the interval.
Malard played only 45 minutes but was rated 8.78, the highest on the pitch. Her double takes her to 4 WSL goals this season, level with team-mate James. Manchester City’s Shaw leads the scoring chart with 8.
Carpenter, rated 8.2, also created 2 chances. McCabe was busier still. Alongside her assist, she supplied 5 key passes.
Beever-Jones and Dragoni complete the scoring
Charlton’s Hutton was booked for a foul in the 50th minute, the only card of the afternoon. Seven minutes later Agnes Beever-Jones made it five, set up by Keira Walsh.
Giulia Dragoni added the sixth in the 66th minute after an assist from Alyssa Thompson.
The numbers reflected Chelsea’s control. They had 71% of the ball, completed 588 of their 665 passes and took 36 shots to Charlton’s 6. Of those, 11 were on target, against 1 from the hosts, and Chelsea’s expected goals reached 4.98 compared with 0.52.
The scoreline could have been heavier. Charlton’s goalkeeper made 6 saves and their defenders blocked 12 attempts. At the other end, Hampton was not required to make a save.
Six unbeaten for Chelsea, three straight defeats for Charlton
Chelsea are now unbeaten in six matches in all competitions. That run includes five straight wins: 3-0 against West Ham, 6-2 against Tottenham Hotspur, 3-1 against Crystal Palace, 2-0 against Roma and now this. It began with a 0-0 draw against Lyon.
The result also follows the pattern of the clubs’ two previous meetings, both in the FA Women’s Cup. Chelsea won 4-0 on each occasion, at Charlton in January 2020 and at home on 12 January 2025.
For Charlton, this was a third consecutive defeat after a 1-0 loss to Birmingham City and a 2-1 loss to West Ham. Their only win in their last six games came against Bristol City, 2-0.
Chelsea host Everton in the WSL on Saturday 7 November. Charlton travel to Crystal Palace the following day, Sunday 8 November.
