Standard of Ghana Premier League must improve – Medeama SC board chairman, Dr Tony Aubynn

Board Chairman of Medeama SC, Dr. Tony Aubynn, has emphasised that the future of football in Ghana is deeply tied to the fortunes of the Ghana Premier League.

The country’s top-tier football competition has faced persistent challenges, including dwindling fan interest, lack of sponsorship, and the absence of a television broadcaster.

Despite these setbacks, Dr. Aubynn maintains that the overall success of Ghanaian football depends on strengthening the domestic league.

If the league is not doing well, obviously we are not going to do well at the top, and I dont think we should pin it on one or two persons because they run a club,” he told Channel One TV.They also have invested so there is more to it than one person being singled out for the entire problem. I believe that we need to invest in football,” he added.

Under Dr. Aubynns leadership, Medeama SC clinched the Ghana Premier League title in the 2022/2023 season and recently relocated to the newly constructed TNA Stadium in Tarkwa, a move seen as a step forward in the clubs development.
