There are a lot of rising talents in the world of women’s soccer, and Trinity Rodman is one of them. Playing for the Washington Spirits and the United States women’s national soccer team, Rodman has quickly become a fan favorite with her unique performances one match after another. She’s definitely a player to keep on your radar and there’s more to her than people know. Here are some interesting facts about Trinity Rodman.

 

1. Trinity Rodman played basketball.

Rodman started playing soccer at the age of four which helped her reach her level of athletic talent. During her early years Rodman also played basketball but in the end she fell in love with soccer more.

“With my mom’s and my dad’s genes, me and my brother excelled in a lot of sports,” she told ESPN. “I was good at basketball, but I was uncomfortable. I did not like dribbling, [I] didn’t know how to shoot. … It didn’t feel like I knew what I was doing.”

 

2. Trinity Rodman has a children’s book

Aside from loving soccer, Rodman is also passionate about creative arts. Her first book was written for children and released in collaboration with Adidas. Her book, “Wake Up and Kick It with Trinity Rodman” is described on the official Adidas website to be “about the resilience, perseverance and optimism that helped her [Rodman] achieve the unprecedented success she’s had in her career thus far.”

 

3. Trinity Rodman has back issues.

Unfortunately for Rodman, she has a lot of back issues that started during her rookie season. It reached the point where she was taken off the field in a wheelchair during a match against Kansas City Current.

Rodman told ESPN, “Honestly, I don’t think my back will ever be 100 percent. It’s kind of an issue of it’s not one specific thing, it’s just the way that my back’s structured. And it’s more so management than like a curable fix. So I think we’ve managed it really well and I’m happy with the progression that we’ve had. But for me, I don’t think my back will ever be the way it was my rookie year, which is unfortunate.”

According to The Guardian, Rodman will be out indefinitely due to her back problems.

 

4. Trinity Rodman’s father was an NBA star.

Rodman’s last name might sound familiar to some people. Her father is Dennis Rodman, a former NBA player and five-time NBA champion. In an interview with “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Rodman revealed that her father was absent during her childhood.

“I think in terms of the dad situation — in terms of what I’ve filtered and what I’ve talked about — I feel like me and my brother have been very generous with the way that we’ve talked about it and very unselfish,” she said according to NBC News. “Even now, I’m trying to be honest about it, and I’m still giving him sympathy. Which is frustrating for me because in reality, I think he’s an extremely selfish human being. I think everything has always been about him.”

 

5. Trinity Rodman had a great rookie season.

Rodman’s rookie season with the Washington Spirit was more than great. At 18 she proved herself as someone who could be depended on. During her rookie season, Rodman had 7 goals and 7 assists and was one of the reasons the Spirits won the NWSL championship during her rookie season. She made the assist for the winning goal in the final match.

 

6. Trinity Rodman is constantly breaking records.

In 2021, when Rodman’s first college season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she decided to skip college and start professional soccer. During the NWSL draft at the time, Rodman was the No. 2 overall pick in the draft  and then the youngest NWSL player ever drafted.

With Trinity Rodman’s talent, the Washington Spirits were determined to keep her. In a new contract, they offered Rodman a record breaking amount. According to ESPN, this contract extension made Rodman the highest-paid player in NWSL history making her four-year contract worth $1.1 million  ($281,000 annually).

“I’m that person that broke the mold for that,” Rodman said about her contract extension. “I’m paving the path for younger players and showing older players that this is what they should have gotten in the first place.”

Rodman’s talent was clear even when she joined the USWNT. On July 9, 2023, the USWNT played against Wales in a World Cup send-off match. After entering the game later, Rodman managed to score two goals which allowed her achieve a new record, making her the youngest USWNT player ever to score two goals in one match.

 

7. Trinity Rodman is dating tennis star Ben Shelton.

Recently, Trinity Rodman and tennis star Ben Shelton became Instagram official in a post shared by Shelton. Shelton is ranked at No. 14 all over the world. Their relationship is the latest one in celebrity couples.
