Liverpool and Leverkusen reach verbal agreement over Florian Wirtz transfer

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have verbally reached an agreement in principle over the transfer of Florian Wirtz. The Premier League champions will pay up to €150million (add-ons included) for the services of the Germany international, who is now set to undergo a medical, before signing a contract with his new club.

Manchester City and Bayern Munich were also interested in Wirtz, but the 22-year-old attacking midfielder informed them both that his heart is set on Liverpool, reportedly after a series of conversations with Liverpool head coach Arne Slot.

However, with Leverkusen demanding a hefty fee and not being willing to budge very much, the negotiations have taken quite a bit of time to reach this point.

Wirtz, one of the heroes of Leverkusen’s unbeaten run to the Bundesliga title in 2023/24, made a total of 197 appearances for Die Werkself in all competitions, scoring 57 goals and contributing 65 assists.
