Asante Kotoko captain and goalkeeper Fredrick Asare has expressed excitement after winning his first major trophy with the club. The former Accra Lions shot-stopper led the team to FA Cup glory after the Porcupine Warriors defeated Golden Kick FC 2-1 in the final at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday.A brace from Kwame Opoku, including a controversial final minute penalty, ensured the Reds ended their six-year wait for the FA Cup title.Reacting to the victory, Asare described the day as special and hopes to achieve more with the Kumasi-based giants.”This is my first time lifting a trophy with Asante Kotoko. I think it’s been almost six years that we have not lifted it and it is very special. Also to the supporters, we are grateful to everyone for coming and we hope in the years ahead we are going to do something special for them as well,” he said after the game.Coach Karim Zito, who led Dreams FC win the competition two season ago, inherited the team from Dr Prosper Ogum, and Asare praised the gaffer for a smooth transition.I think with them they have almost the same style of play so the transition wasnt that much difficult we had to adapt to their style of play which was very similar so we didnt find it that much difficult because we were willing to do something for ourselves also,” added Asare.Asante Kotoko will represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
