Manchester United are exploring a surprise loan swoop for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma as the transfer deadline looms—though Chelsea could yet rival them for his signature.
According to Give Me Sport, the Red Devils are actively searching for reinforcements in both midfield and goal, and the unsettled Italian international has emerged as a prime target.
Donnarumma’s PSG Future in Doubt
Since arriving at PSG on a free transfer from AC Milan in 2021, Donnarumma has been the undisputed No. 1 in Paris, playing a key role in last season’s treble triumph. However, Luis Enrique has now dropped him from the squad, favouring summer signing Lucas Chevalier.
The 26-year-old—now in the final year of his £300,000-a-week contract—has already posted an emotional message to PSG fans, signalling a potential farewell. With his market value still high, PSG are open to a permanent sale, but not keen on a loan deal.
United’s Goalkeeping Dilemma
Manchester United’s interest is complicated by their situation with Andre Onana. The club does not want two high-earning goalkeepers on the books, so they are reluctant to commit to a permanent transfer before moving Onana on.
Their plan would be to bring Donnarumma in temporarily, either loaning out Onana or keeping him to create fierce competition for the starting spot. Convincing PSG to agree to a loan, however, remains the biggest hurdle.

Chelsea are also monitoring the situation closely. While the Blues have yet to make a formal move, they are seeking greater stability in goal and could swoop in with a permanent offer—potentially blowing United out of the water.
