(Photo by Daniela Porcelli/Getty Images)Jonas Adjetey is one of the surprise omissions from Carlos Queirozs 24-man Black Stars squad for Ghanas upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers despite his impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.The 22-year-old defender was a standout performer for Ghana during the tournament, particularly in the goalless draw against England in Boston, where he played a key role in helping the Black Stars keep a clean sheet.However, Adjetey has not been included in Queirozs squad for the September international window, with the Ghana coach instead recalling Nathaniel Adjei, who has enjoyed an impressive start to the season with French Ligue 1 side Lorient.Adjeteys omission appears to be linked to his limited playing time at club level.The Wolfsburg defender has struggled for regular minutes since the start of the 2026/27 season. He has made only limited appearances, with his most recent Bundesliga 2 involvement coming as a substitute. Official Bundesliga data lists him with two league appearances this season.That lack of competitive action appears to have influenced Queirozs decision, with the Portuguese coach stressing that match fitness was an important factor in selecting the squad.”Our technical staff carried out our usual in-depth monitoring of the players. The limitations or periods of inactivity affecting some players are also well known. There is always one general principle that we consider fundamental at this stage, except in exceptional circumstances: players should be in competitive action, physically prepared and fully ready to play for the national team,” Queiroz explained.Adjeteys exclusion is particularly notable given the confidence Queiroz showed in him at the World Cup, where he featured in Ghanas campaign and delivered an impressive display against England.The defender will now have to fight for regular playing time at Wolfsburg if he is to force his way back into the Black Stars squad.Ghana will face Cte dIvoire in Bouak on September 24 before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29. The Black Stars will then face Morocco in an international friendly on October 4.
