Prosper Narteh Ogum believes the current Black Starlets team can write their names in the history books by winning the country a third U17 Africa Cup of Nations title.
Ghana, two-time African champions, begin their quest for continental glory on Thursday, May 14, when they face Algeria in the opening Group D game.
The Black Starlets are making a return to the tournament after a nine-year absence, with the ex-Asante Kotoko gaffer hoping to make history in Morocco.
“It is very important because Ghana has always been recognised as one of the strongest nations in youth football,” he told CAF Online. “The Black Starlets have created great memories in the past and this current generation has an opportunity to write its own chapter in history.
“We constantly remind the players about the legacy they are carrying, but at the same time we encourage them to focus on creating their own identity and success story.”
Dr Ogum has been in charge of the team since last year, leading the Black Starlets to qualify for the tournament after finishing runners-up at the WAFU Zone B Championship.
Ghana will also be hoping to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 2017 by progressing beyond the group stage.
The West Africans will face South Africa and Senegal after the Algeria game in Group D.
