Tonight the Blues face Luton in the EFL Cup, a game sandwiched between Monday night’s game against Fulham and Sunday’s against Brighton. Three games in 7 days? A match against lower league opposition in the early rounds of the cup at home? We’ve never seen such a good chance to for a fully changed XI.

Instead, Alonso has picked some of his first team players – Cole Palmer and Reece James need to be managed carefully this season, we’re shocked they’re playing tonight.
Maxence Lacroix, Malo Gusto, Morgan Rogers and Acheampong all feature from Monday’s team too, but they’re much more durable than the former two.
Perhaps, with no European football to worry about this season, we should get used to just seeing very strong cup teams? Even then, we don’t ever want to see James play three games in 7 days. Maybe he is rested against Brighton?
