Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Trusty faces Bello, and more

The UEFA Champions League Qualifying Playoffs roll on this week and four American players will face off with a spot in the league phase at stake.

Auston Trusty, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic welcome George Bello, Sam Adeniran and LASK to Glasgow on Wednesday in the first leg of their playoff series. All four players are fresh from weekend action with their respective clubs but will now seek a positive result in their first leg matchup.

Trusty scored Celtic’s opening goal on Saturday in a 4-0 League Cup Round of 16 victory over Dundee United. The U.S. Men’s National Team defender kicked off the scoring at Tannadice Park, helping Celtic earn its third-straight win in all competitions.

Carter-Vickers also made his third appearance, logging a full 90 minutes.

LASK has also enjoyed a winning start to the season, earning four-straight victories in all competitions. Bello and Adeniran have played vital roles once again for the reigning Bundesliga winners after leading them to a domestic double last campaign.

Adeniran has five goals in all competitions while Bello has remained a key threat as a left wing back.

Although it will mark the first head-to-head meeting between Celtic and LASK since 2014, it should be a spicy affair from Celtic Park between the two in-form clubs.

Elsewhere, Tanner Tessmann and Lyon take on Fenerbahce in the first leg of their Champions League qualifying series. Johnny Cardoso and Atletico Madrid host Malaga in their La Liga opener.
