Arteta ‘very happy’ with new deal for Arsenal star Saka

Mikel Arteta says it was “great” news to see Bukayo Saka sign a brand new deal and commit his future to Arsenal.

The winger has signed a new four-year contract that makes him the Gunners’ best-paid player.

Saka’s previous terms were due to expire in 2027, but he is now set to remain at Arsenal until 2030.

The England international is one of Arteta’s key players, having played more minutes for the club since the manager’s appointment in 2019.

In total, Saka has made 296 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 77 goals, including eight in 34 games in all competitions this season.

“I think they are all [the renewals] very important,” Arteta said in his pre-match press conference ahead of this Sunday’s North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

“We are very happy that the players are feeling in such a strong way about the club, what we are doing, the way they feel treated and the fact they can continue to improve to try and win what we want to win together.

“Bukayo’s news is great. He’s one of our own.

“We’ve had him here since he was very little and for him to make that decision and for the club to be so aligned with him, it’s a really positive thing.”
