Atletico fear bidding war for €70m Cucurella who is close to leaving

Marc Cucurella’s move away from Chelsea has a few doors open right now, and Atletico are weighing up how much they would spend.

While a return to his boyhood club of Barcelona has always felt more likely, the chatter about a potential move for Marc Cucurella to Atletico Madrid increasingly makes a lot of sense too.

Atletico have the money to pay and the need at left back. If Chelsea are willing to sell, they have a buyer right there and a player who probably would take the move.

An article in Mundo Deportivo today goes into more detail on Atletico’s plans. They say that Chelsea have asked for €70m, while they were hoping to pay €50m.

€70m is considered “totally off the table” compared to what they hoped to pay for a new left back. Man City and Barcelona are also interested, and there are apparently fears in the Spanish capital that that could end up raising Cucurella’s price closer to what Chelsea want.

They note that Xabi Alonso will have the “final word” on this move, and could yet persuade Cucurella to stay at Stamford Bridge.

In other news…

Enzo Fernandez is being linked with interest from Man City as well as Real Madrid, although one former player thinks that’s unlikely for this reason.

We’ve only just hit June, but some Chelsea fans are already getting frustrated by a perceived lack of action from their club in the transfer market.
