According to multiple sources, Bayer Leverkusen have reached an agreement with Brentford over the proposed transfer of Mark Flekken. The fee the Bundesliga side will be paying for the services of the goalkeeper, who will turn 32 later this month, is set at €10million.
Flekken joined Brentford from SC Freiburg in 2023, going on to make a total of 77 appearances for the Bees in which he managed to keep 15 clean sheets. He has eight caps as a Netherlands international to his name, usually serving as a backup option for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Bart Verbruggen.
Leverkusen captain Lukas Hradecky has only a year left on his contract, and given that he’s 35 years old, his stay at the BayArena being extended beyond the summer of 2026 is far from guaranteed. The club were expected to sign a new goalkeeper and that is now obviously close.
Having sold Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool and Florian Wirtz reportedly close to leaving for Anfield as well, there were reports suggesting Liverpool’s No. 2 Caoimhin Kelleher could be moving the other way. However, the 26-year-old Ireland international is now heavily linked with replacing Flekken at Brentford.
