FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. It was a busy Wednesday for Methodist University Athletics, as three Monarch teams were in action: men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and volleyball. Both soccer programs wrapped up their regular seasons against USA South rival North Carolina Wesleyan University — with the women traveling to Rocky Mount and the men originally slated to host before the match was moved to Meredith College — while the volleyball team hit the road to face Meredith.
In women’s soccer, Methodist struck first when junior Haley Cousins put away the opening goal for a 1–0 lead. However, N.C. Wesleyan responded with a pair of goals to edge out a 2–1 victory. BOX SCORE
Over in Raleigh, the Monarchs’ volleyball squad delivered a thrilling five-set performance, rallying for a 3–2 win over Meredith. Senior Jamie Holton paced the offense with a season-high 20 kills, while junior Mary Miller anchored the defense with a match-best 29 digs. Setters Charleigh Anne Hewett and Faith Driver shared setting duties, recording 31 and 28 assists, respectively. BOX SCORE
Meanwhile, in men’s soccer, what was scheduled as a home finale became a neutral-site contest at Meredith College. The Monarchs battled the Battling Bishops through 90 minutes of tough, physical play that ultimately ended in a scoreless draw, marking a resilient close to the regular season. BOX SCORE
