Carlos Queiroz resigned from Black Stars job over lack of infrastructure – GFA

(Photo by Julian Finney – FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images)Carlos Queiroz was among those frustrated by Ghanas lack of football infrastructure, which contributed to his decision to leave his position as Black Stars head coach, Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has said.The GFA confirmed on 1st October that it had mutually parted ways with the 73-year-old Portuguese coach following Ghanas poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.The Black Stars have lost both of their opening Group C matches and are bottom of the group without a point.Ghana opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Ivory Coast in Bouake before suffering another setback against The Gambia.The Black Stars surrendered a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving their hopes of reaching the 2027 tournament under significant pressure.Asante Twum said Queiroz was particularly concerned that Ghana did not have a dedicated training base for the national team.”One of the reasons why Carlos Queiroz has left his role is the lack of infrastructure in the country,” he told Kessben FM.”Carlos Queiroz was surprised to find out that the Black Stars do not have a camp base where the team trains.”He complained that he had never seen before that a national team does not have a camp base.”He was disappointed to find out that where the team plays is the same place the team trains. He believes that it affects the team and does not help in getting a proper pitch.”Asante Twum added that the limited number of approved venues had contributed to the situation.”The situation is that we have only one approved stadium, and he gave a scientific basis for his reasons,” he said.A five-member committee has been established to oversee the search for a new Black Stars head coach, with its report due to be submitted to the Sports Ministry on 9 October.Ghana will return to AFCON qualifying action in October with a double-header against Somalia, with both matches scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.The Black Stars are attempting to return to the continental tournament after failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
