Leeds United have no plans to sell Ethan Ampadu despite renewed speculation linking the Wales international with a return to Chelsea.
Ampadu has become an important figure at Elland Road since leaving Stamford Bridge for Leeds in 2023, establishing himself as one of Daniel Farke’s most trusted players. His importance to the team has only increased since being handed the captaincy.
According to Football Insider, Leeds are determined to keep hold of the 26-year-old and would not entertain offers for him in the near future. The club are understood to view Ampadu as a key part of their long-term plans, with his current contract running until 2030.
Chelsea’s interest has emerged from Ampadu’s consistent performances for Leeds, with the midfielder now a very different proposition from the player who left west London two years ago. However, a return to his former club does not currently appear to be a realistic prospect.

Football Insider also reports that Chelsea are unlikely to make a move for Ampadu in 2027 despite the speculation surrounding his future. Leeds’ firm stance could make any potential approach particularly difficult, especially given the player’s long-term commitment to the club.
Ampadu joined Chelsea’s academy as a teenager and made his senior debut for the club before spending time on loan at RB Leipzig, Sheffield United and Venezia. He eventually made the permanent move to Leeds, where he has developed into a regular starter and influential presence.
For Leeds, retaining Ampadu is also consistent with the ambitions surrounding Farke’s side. The Whites have made an unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign, and the midfielder remains central to their efforts to establish themselves at the highest level.
With Ampadu tied down until 2030 and Leeds unwilling to consider his departure, Chelsea may have to look elsewhere if they decide to strengthen their midfield in future windows.
