Josh Acheampong’s battle for minutes isn’t getting any easier this season, and it’s surely time for him to go on loan.

The news is finally confirmed that Chelsea have signed Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace. He is being brought in as a starter, likely alongside Levi Colwill.
That means that Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Axel Disasi, Mamadou Sarr, Aaron Anselmino and Tosin Adarabioyo are all bumped down the pecking order. Worst off of everyone is Josh Acheampong, whose chances of getting starts has dwindled even further. The arrival of Marco Palestra at right back has hurt his chances of minutes there too. With no European football on offer, he’s surely got to go on loan this season.
Acheampong’s future at a crossroads

The young defender has just two years left on his contract after this season. His talent is clear, but he needs to play. The club have a crucial decision to make over how much football he will actually play this season if he stays at Chelsea. If they manage to sell or loan Badiashile, Disasi, Anselmino, Sarr and Fofana as they’d probably like, maybe Acheampong will get a chance after all.

Chelsea’s deal for Maxence Lacroix is done, and has been announced by the club. That only increases the pressure on Josh Acheampong.
Jordan Henderson’s move to Stamford Bridge has also been given the “here we go” from Fabrizio Romano, and should be completed in the next few days.
