Chelsea reject Leeds loan bid for Mykhailo Mudryk

Chelsea have officially rejected an initial season-long loan proposal from Leeds United for Mykhailo Mudryk, as the Ukrainian seeks regular playing time following his lengthy suspension, though talks between the two clubs remain ongoing.

While the opening bid fell well short of expectations, Mudryk remains highly interested in finalising a move to Elland Road to rebuild his match fitness this season.

Why Chelsea rejected Leeds’ loan offer for Mudryk

Chelsea have rejected the opening offer from Leeds United for Mudryk, according to reports from BBC Sport. The proposal from the Premier League side fell significantly short of expectations, though negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs.

Mudryk is keen on making the switch to Elland Road to secure consistent minutes after spending 20 months away from football following a positive test for the banned substance meldonium. Leeds emerged as frontrunners because they are willing to take the winger on a straight loan without a purchase option, which would allow Chelsea to retain long-term control over a player they signed for an initial £62 million in 2023.

Chelsea continue trimming their squad

If the move materialises, Mudryk would become the fifth summer signing for Daniel Farke’s side, who kick off their league campaign against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The Whites have already recruited Harry Wilson, Tarik Muharemovic, James Trafford and Nico Elvedi.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are actively working on trimming Xabi Alonso’s squad ahead of the deadline. Several outcast stars are securing moves away, with Axel Disasi joining Crystal Palace, Benoît Badiashile heading to Napoli, and Atlético Madrid finalising a £65 million transfer for Nicolas Jackson. Other players, including Liam Delap and Dário Essugo, also face uncertain futures.

Other clubs monitoring the Mudryk situation

Despite ongoing talks with Leeds, other clubs are monitoring the situation. Chelsea rejected an earlier loan approach from Brentford because the Bees insisted on an option to buy. Interest also remains from Coventry City, who take on Arsenal in the season-opening match on Friday night.

The prospect of Mudryk joining Strasbourg or moving to Italy is considered less likely, with the 25-year-old preferring to stay in England. Alonso addressed the speculation directly: “We will see, we still have time to decide and we don’t have to rush on many decisions and at the right time, we will take them. At the moment, not yet.”

What happens next for Mykhailo Mudryk

Mudryk will continue training with the Chelsea squad under Alonso while his representatives work to resolve his short-term future. With Leeds actively pushing for a revised agreement to bolster their attack for the Premier League season, a departure before deadline day remains highly probable. The coming days will be crucial in determining where he plays this season.
