Marc Cucurella is open to leaving Chelsea this summer and would welcome a return to Barcelona, according to the front page of Mundo Deportivo, with the 27-year-old Spain international describing a potential Camp Nou homecoming as a personal dream and admitting he would find it very difficult to turn down.
Chelsea would be willing to sell for around €50m with Cucurella’s contract at the Bridge running out in 2028 (which will be two years to due this summer making it a sweet spot for the Blues to sell).
Barcelona sporting director Deco has not yet held talks with the player’s agent, and Cucurella is not currently listed as a priority, but the story has landed on the front page of one of Spain’s biggest sports newspapers, which reflects the level of genuine interest on both sides.
What Marc Cucurella said about a Barcelona transfer
During the last international break, the Spanish media put the question to Cucurella directly and he said:
“It would be difficult to turn it down. I’d have to think about my family. If it happens, it happens, and we’ll see what decision is made.”
Mundo Deportivo go further, reporting that for Cucurella, a return to Barcelona would represent something more than a transfer, describing it as a chance to come back to the club of his life as a more mature and established player.
Why the situation at Chelsea is pushing Cucurella toward the exit
The instability at Stamford Bridge has been a significant factor in his thinking.
Chelsea sacked Enzo Maresca in January and replaced him with Liam Rosenior, who was then dismissed earlier this month following a run of poor results, leaving the club eighth in the Premier League and out of European contention for next season.
Having made 158 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions and established himself as a reliable Premier League left-back, Cucurella is at the stage of his career where he wants stability and ambition around him.
A club that has now sacked two managers in a single season is not offering either.
What a Cucurella to Barcelona deal would look like
Chelsea’s valuation of €50m aligns with his Transfermarkt value and his contract length.
Mundo Deportivo notes that salary would not be an obstacle for Barcelona. The sticking point is whether the Catalan club are willing to commit that fee given they are prioritising other positions in the summer rebuild.
Deco’s focus is elsewhere for now, and Cucurella is currently a contingency option rather than a first-choice target. That dynamic could shift if a significant sale frees up budget, or if the left-back position becomes a higher priority following the window’s opening weeks.
His representatives at agency Dupla Piqué and Dominguez will be the ones to open the formal conversation when the moment arrives. For now, the player’s position is clear. The club just needs to decide if the price is right.
