Bayer Leverkusen have completed the acquisition of Dutch-born Ghanaian winger Ernest Poku in the current transfer window, marking a significant step in his career.
The 21-year-old winger joins the German Bundesliga outfit from AZ Alkmaar on a five-year deal, keeping him at the club until summer 2030.
Leverkusen reported coughed around 10 million Euros for the acquisition of the talented Dutch-Ghanaian winger.
Poku, who is eligible to represent both the Netherlands and Ghana at international level performed admirably for the Dutch outfit, earning him a move to the German club this summer.
Before securing his move to Leverkusen, Ernest Poku had featured in three UEFA Conference League qualifiers, finding the back of the net once.
Known for his blistering pace and direct style of play, Poku racked up three goals and provided six assists in 48 Eredivisie appearances during his stint with AZ Alkmaar. He also made 10 appearances in the UEFA Europa League for the Dutch club.
The talented winger impressed at the U-21 European Championship in Slovakia, netting twice in five games for the Dutch U-21 side. Overall, he has earned 21 appearances for the Dutch youth team.
In Eric ten Hag’s 3-4-3 system, the Dutch-born Ghanaian is expected to occupy the right flank, where his speed and dribbling ability can stretch opposition defences.
