FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  The Methodist women’s soccer team came out firing on all cylinders Wednesday evening, scoring a season-high five goals in the first 26 minutes to defeat Pfeiffer University, 5–0, in USA South Athletic Conference action at Duggins Soccer Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Monarchs wasted no time asserting control, finding the back of the net just seven minutes into the match. After freshman Gabby Riemer’s initial shot hit the left post, junior Haley Cousins cleaned up the rebound for her second goal of the season, with Riemer credited with an assist.
  • Three minutes later, Methodist doubled its lead as freshman Amelia Millard scored her first collegiate goal, receiving a 40-yard pass from classmate Brynn Ludka off a set piece and burying a shot from the top of the 18-yard box.
  • In the 13th minute, the Monarchs extended the advantage to 3–0 when Riemer drove into the box and slid a pass across the goal line to Ludka, who converted from close range for her first collegiate goal.
  • Methodist’s offense surge continued in the 20th minute when Cousins tallied her second goal of the night, off a corner kick from Ludka. Emy Cloutier capped off the scoring in the 26th minute by converting a penalty kick to make it 5–0.
  • The Monarchs controlled possession throughout, outshooting Pfeiffer 16-4 and earning seven corner kicks compared to the Falcons’ two.

  • Cousins led the offense with a career-high two goals.
  • Ludka contributed one goal and two assists, while Riemer added two assists of her own.
  • In goal, senior Kaylea Carter and junior Sabrina Nassar combined for the shutout, with Nassar making one save late in the match.
