Former Kotoko defender Maxwell Agyemang completes move to Debibi United
Former Asante Kotoko, Karela United, and Hohoe United centre-back Maxwell Agyemang has completed his move to newly promoted Ghana Premier League side Debibi United. He arrives as a free agent, following Hohoe United’s suspension and expulsion from the league. The 29-year-old defender brings significant top-flight experience to the Premier League newcomers. He began his senior career with Asante Kotoko in the 2021/22 season, contributing to the Porcupine Warriors’ league title-winning campaign with 22 appearances across two seasons. He later moved to Karela United, where he enjoyed his most productive season in 2023/24, making 16 appearances. Most recently, Agyemang featured for Hohoe United during the 2025/26 season before the club withdrew from the Ghana Premier League and was subsequently banned from all GFA competitions until 2030, granting all its registered players free agent status.Debibi United, who secured their first-ever Ghana Premier League promotion with a 3-1 playoff final victory over Tamale City, are moving quickly to strengthen their squad with experienced campaigners. Agyemang is their second high-profile acquisition following the earlier appointment of head coach Isaac Nii Armah. The defender had attracted interest from several clubs, including Bibiani Gold Stars and Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas. However, Debibi United won the race for his signature as they build a squad capable of competing in Ghana’s top flight for the first time.
