From Pitch to Profession: What Former USWNT Players Do Next

As we have seen many USWNT legends of the game close their careers with the national squad, it is safe to say that many former players continue to play vital roles in women’s sports and society as a whole. Here we will highlight the careers a few former USWNT players have pursued after their illustrious soccer careers.

Carli Lloyd

Lloyd is no stranger to the soccer world, and has made her way to the broadcasting world as well. Her knowledge and experience helped her analyze and comment on games from the 2022 Men’s World Cup and 2023 Women’s World Cup. Speaking of television appearances, Lloyd also participated in the reality TV show Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test in 2023.

Aside from her involvement in the media, Lloyd is a minority owner of Gotham FC and continues to hold soccer clinics for the next generation of girls and women soccer players. We should expect to see Lloyd as a commentator or analyst at future soccer events, men or women. Either way, Lloyd’s impact from her days wearing the US crest to now still holds true.

Tobin Heath & Christen Press

With both Heath and Press officially retired, the two have not only built a life together, but have also built significant spaces for women’s sports to grow. Both are co-CEOs with other previous USWNT players, Megan Rapinoe and Megan Klingenberg, to the RE-INC business which focuses on social justice, gender equality, and equity and progress in sports.

Heath and Press expanded the RE-INC brand into a media and podcast platform. The podcast has been successful and is currently a top listen on Apple’s soccer podcast section. Fans love seeing the two share their life online with their dog, Bob. The two are thriving and continuing to make positive changes to how women’s sports are viewed through their business and media presence.

Ali Krieger

Remembered for her fierce and electric defense, Krieger has transferred her knowledge of the game to broadcasting and media. She is a key analyst for ESPN’s shows SportsCenter, ESPN FC, and Futbol Americas. Krieger also is a co-member of the podcast Futbol W. If you tuned into Boston Legacy FC and Gotham FC’s match during the NWSL’s 2026 opening weekend, then you likely saw Krieger during the pre-game, halftime, and post-game discussions.

Along with her media presence, she is a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, equal pay, and progress in women’s sports. She has even invested in League One Volleyball (LOVB), which is a league for professional women’s volleyball players. Her role with Gotham is ongoing as she is the team’s Club Ambassador.

Megan Rapinoe

As mentioned, Rapinoe is a key piece to the RE-INC alongside other previous USWNT members. This is only one of the many involvements Rapinoe has engaged with in her post-soccer career. Most prominently, Rapinoe and her wife Sue Bird are founders of their production company called A Touch More. From podcasts to scripted projects, A Touch More taps into sports, politics, and social justice.

Since her time with the USWNT, Rapinoe has been a strong, vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. She uses her platform and media production to promote equality and discuss topics that tie to contemporary political and social issues. Her many investments and partnerships have demonstrated her commitment to her values and beliefs.

Julie Foudy

Foudy was a long-time member of ESPN’s soccer analyst crew, until she recently departed from the network and agreed to a larger role with TNT Sports. Despite this transition, Foudy’s in-game knowledge and ability to articulate strategy while calling a live match is unlike others.

She is also a significant figure in the NWSL as a member of the league’s Advisory Board. Along with this, Foudy is a founding co-owner of the Angel City club. Obviously, her role in women’s soccer is unmatched, but she has even invested in League One Volleyball (LOVB) San Francisco.

While many of these previous USWNT stars are no longer in action, we can still see their impact, whether it be on a podcast, as a match commentator, or in their investments.
