George Campbell’s productive March has earned him a nomination for the PFA Player of the Month award.
Campbell was one of six nominees announced on Friday for the monthly honor, the PFA revealed. The American centerback helped West Bromwich Albion to an unbeaten record in that month, starting all four matches and scoring twice.
Campbell scored in the Baggies’ 1-1 road draw with Sheffield United on March 7, rebounding after conceding an own goal earlier in the match. He also helped the Baggies pick up one point at home against playoff-chasing Southampton.
Another 90 minutes were logged by Campbell in March 14’s 3-0 victory over Hull City before the U.S. men’s national team defender scored the winning goal seven days later in a 1-0 triumph over Bristol City.
The 24-year-old Campbell made the move to West Brom last summer from CF Montreal and has adjusted nicely to the EFL Championship. He’s made 39 appearances for the Baggies in all competitions, scoring four goals and adding two assists.
Campbell’s impact has helped West Brom move closer from the relegation zone with two matches remaining this spring. The Baggies originally were eight points clear, but a recent two point deduction from the EFL will drop West Brom back to 50 points.
Should West Brom earn at least one point from its final two matches, bearing results elsewhere, they will guarantee league safety.
