Spain have advanced to the Nations League final for the second year in a row, with the world champions taking on Germany this time.

Route to the final
Spain had a tough group stage draw this year, with England drawn alongside the world champs.
While the Lionesses have held the upper hand in the Euros over the past two tournaments, they had no such luck in the Nations League.
Spain topped their group as they showed their superiority with five wins out of six. England did beat Spain once, but losing to lower ranked teams cost Sarina Wiegman’s side a place in the finals.
In the semi-final against Sweden, Spain continued to dominate. Sonia Bermúdez led her nation to a 6-0 aggregate win in the semi’s to advance to their second Nations League final in as many years.

Germany had a slightly easier group than the other finalists, and they advanced to the knockouts without losing a game.
While their group was straightforward, Germany’s semi-final was anything but that.
After a 1-0 first leg win against France Germany were in control of their destiny. On the road in France they survived a late scare to draw 2-2 and win 3-2 on aggregate.
Who are favourites to win the women’s Nations League?
As it is in almost every competition they play in these days, Spain are the favourites to win this year’s Nations League.
The world champions have five Ballon d’Or’s in their midfield between Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas. Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey also finished runner up for the award this year.
Spain not only has the quality of players to win the Nations League, they also have the competition experience.

The inaugural Nations League was also won by Spain last year after they beat France in the final.
Despite all the signs pointing to another Spain win, Germany can’t be taken lightly.
In last year’s tournament they were knocked out by France in the semi-finals and after getting revenge this year, they will be hungry to go on and win the competition.
Germany went toe to toe with Spain at the Euros in summer and were only knocked out in extra time of the semi-finals.
There isn’t long to wait until the Nations League final, with Spain and Germany facing off over two legs in the November-December international break.
